How I Get 2-5 Booked Meetings Per Week
with more tips from Gary Halbert and Dickie Bush
If you’re not getting meetings, something is wrong.
Getting consistent meetings on my calendar requires a strategic approach. Every writer wants to achieve this, but few actually do.
Here’s how I do it:
Step 1: Optimize Your Profiles
Your profile is your first impression, your landing page for when people like your content and want to figure out what you’re about. Make it count.
Write a banger headline. Clearly state who you are and what you do.
Use a clear and approachable profile photo.
Make a visually appealing banner that’s relevant to your brand.
In your about section: share your story, highlight your expertise, and include a clear call to action.
Produce high-quality content for your audience.
Step 2: Write Compelling Content
You need an effective system to move your audience down your pipeline. I follow the TOFU, MOFU, BOFU model to create engaging content that converts:
TOFU (Top of Funnel): Create awareness by sharing inspirational and entertaining content. Your focus should be on growth, awareness, and personality.
MOFU (Middle of Funnel): Engage your audience by addressing their specific problems. Your content should be educational and insightful (think: threads and carousels).
BOFU (Bottom of Funnel): Convert your audience sharing testimonials, your compelling offer, and social proof.
Step 3: Convert in the DMs
Direct messages are powerful for building relationships and closing deals.
Here’s my approach:
Tailor each message to the recipient. Mention common connections or recent posts they’ve made.
Clearly state the benefit of connecting with you (value proposition). Why should they care?
Make it easy for them to take the next step, whether it’s scheduling a call or attending a webinar with a clear call-to-action.
I keep it simple.
Note: I also don’t hound people. I’m looking for people who are open. Send 3 messages max.
Step 4: Use Outbound Strategies
While inbound methods are great, sometimes you need to reach out directly.
Here’s how:
Use targeted outreach. Identify key prospects and engage with them through comments, likes, and shares before reaching out. Then, send them a message introducing yourself.
Follow up on initial messages and keep the conversation going.
A well-crafted newsletter keeps you top of mind with your audience. Here’s what I include:
Valuable content such as tips, industry news, and personal stories. This content should go beyond what you give them on your social pages.
Encourage readers to book a call, reply to the email, or check out your latest offer.
Send your newsletter on a regular schedule to build trust and engagement.
I know some people have a podcast instead of a newsletter. The same principles apply.
Doing this consistently gets people to click on my Calendly link and book a call with me.

4 Copywriting Tips from Gary Halbert: Achieving High Conversion Rates Through Direct Response Writing
Gary Halbert: The King of Copywriting
Gary Halbert, often hailed as one of the greatest direct response copywriters, left behind a treasure trove of actionable insights that can dramatically boost your conversion rates. If you’re trying to get meetings on your calendar, studying his copywriting is definitely going to help you out.
Here are some top tips from the KING of copywriting.
1. Craft Irresistible Offers
Halbert’s Insight: An offer they can’t refuse is central to high-converting copy. Halbert believed in making the offer so compelling that the prospect feels foolish to pass it up.
Actionable Take: Bundle your product with bonuses that add real value and address your customer's pain points. Use scarcity and urgency effectively but ethically. For instance, limited-time discounts or exclusive bonuses for the first few buyers can drive action. Ensure the perceived value far exceeds the price.
Example: "Sign up for our Content Mastery Course today and get exclusive access to our $299 Bonus Pack, including templates, e-books, and one-on-one coaching. Hurry, only 10 spots available at this price!"
2. Use the AIDA Formula
Halbert’s Insight: The AIDA (Attention, Interest, Desire, Action) formula is a staple in Halbert’s copywriting approach. It ensures your copy flows logically and leads the reader to take action.
Actionable Take:
Attention: Start with a powerful headline that addresses a core problem or desire of your audience. Use curiosity or a bold statement to hook them.
Interest: Use storytelling and relatable anecdotes to keep them engaged. Highlight benefits early to maintain their interest.
Desire: Build desire by showing testimonials, social proof, and case studies. Paint a vivid picture of the transformation your product/service provides.
Action: End with a clear, strong call to action. Use direct language like “Buy Now,” “Sign Up Today,” or “Claim Your Free Trial.”
Example:
Attention: "Discover the Secret to Doubling Your Freelance Income in Just 3 Months!"
Interest: "I was once struggling like you, juggling low-paying gigs and endless client searches. But then I found a strategy that changed everything..."
Desire: "Imagine waking up to a full inbox of high-paying client requests. Just like John, who saw his income double after implementing our strategies."
Action: "Ready to transform your freelance business? Sign Up Today and get started!"
3. Write Like You Talk
Halbert’s Insight: Halbert believed in writing in a conversational tone, as if you’re having a face-to-face chat with your prospect. This makes your copy more relatable and engaging.
Actionable Take: Avoid jargon and complex sentences. Use simple, direct language. Read your copy out loud; if it sounds natural, you’re on the right track. Inject personality into your writing to build rapport with your audience.
Example: Instead of "Our comprehensive program will facilitate your skill enhancement," write "Our program will help you improve your skills fast!"
4. Focus on the Headline
Halbert’s Insight: Halbert spent a significant amount of time crafting and perfecting headlines, knowing they’re the first and often the only chance to grab attention.
Actionable Take: Test multiple headlines. Use numbers, questions, and powerful words that evoke curiosity or urgency. Examples include “How to [Achieve Desired Result] in [Time Frame]” or “The Secret to [Benefit] Without [Pain Point].”
Example: "How to Land 5 High-Paying Clients in Just 30 Days Without Feeling Overwhelmed"
Halbert has many other great insights - some that you’re probably already familiar with. Remember, the devil is in the details, so take the time to understand your audience, craft compelling offers, and refine your copy.
Write 1000 words every day, hit the publish button, and you’ll start getting meetings booked on your calendar.
Content Keys From Dickie Bush on Growing an Audience of 392k On X
Dickie Bush (right) and his co-founder Nicolas Cole
Dickie Bush is one of the most prolific writers on the internet, amassing over 392k followers on X (Twitter) since January 2020 and building a multi-million dollar business around teaching online writing. But his journey wasn’t always smooth. For the first 9 months, his newsletter saw almost no traction. His breakthrough came when Naval retweeted one of his Twitter threads, doubling his small following overnight.
Bush’s business, co-founded with Nicolas Cole, includes several revenue streams:
Ship 30 for 30: A cohort-based course where participants write daily for 30 days, learning writing fundamentals. The course started at $50 in 2021 and now costs $999.
First Mate: An upgrade from Ship 30, offering personalized feedback and a behind-the-scenes look at running a cohort-based course for $1,999.
Typeshare: A software product enabling users to write and publish on multiple platforms, generating $29,000 MRR by the end of 2022.
Bush's growth on X hinges on several strategies:
1. Micro-failures
Bush tests content ideas with single tweets to gauge audience interest before expanding successful ones into full threads.
This approach ensures he only invests time in content that resonates, maximizing engagement and efficiency.
2. Mastering Twitter threads
He uses specific templates and formats to craft compelling threads, ensuring they are visually appealing and easy to read.
Using clear hooks, big numbers, and proper formatting, Bush captures and retains his audience's attention.
3. Repetition
Bush conveys the same message in multiple ways, such as breaking down complex ideas into simpler components and revisiting key topics.
This not only reinforces important points but also allows him to reach different segments of his audience with tailored content.
4. Unreasonable Effort
He produces an exceptionally high volume of content, often putting out multiple tweets per day.
That way he can stay top-of-mind with his audience and surpasses those who produce content less frequently.
There’s a reason that Dickie Bush is one of the most respected writers online, and why thousands trust him and his advice on how to build audiences.
Once you build these strategies into your foundation, then you can build consistency. Overtime, you’ll have a powerful brand.
